Committees

The Subject Group Council is represented by several students in the following committees (as of summer semester 2025):

Additional committees are:

Some committees are elected annually.

Overview of the committees

In the following diagram, we have summarized the committees of the student and academic self-administration (specifically at our faculty) and illustrated their relationships to one another. Other faculties each have a Faculty Council, a Students' Faculty Council, and other or even no Subject Group Councils.

What do the individual committees do?

Subject Group Council (FR)

Each subject group (a group of all students of closely related degrees) is represented by a Subject Group Council. More details can be found on the page about the Subject Group Council for Computer Science.

Students' Faculty Council (FSR)

The Students' Faculty Council (FSR) of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is the elected representative body for all students in the faculty. It is elected annually and meets on a monthly basis.

Here, matters affecting all areas of the faculty are discussed, such as joint activities or the distribution of mandates to university policy committees such as the Student Council (StuRa).

For matters that only affect a specific area of the faculty, the Students' Faculty Council is divided into the Subject Group Council Electrical Engineering, the Subject Group Council Computer Science and the Subject Group Council Mechatronics.

Faculty Council (FakRat)

The Faculty Council of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is the highest decision-making body of the faculty. This is where the recommendations from other committees (such as the Study Commission or the Examination Board) are discussed.

The Faculty Council consists of seven professors and two members each from the other status groups (administrative employees, research employees, students).

The student representatives are elected independently of the Students' Faculty Council. Traditionally, however, they are either elected members of the Students' Faculty Council or at least regularly attend the meetings.

In the current term of office, student representation is equally divided between one student from the field of electrical engineering and one student from the field of computer science.

Since the decisions made in the Faculty Council are also of great importance for student work, the topics of the upcoming Faculty Council meeting are discussed at the meetings of the Students' Faculty Council so that a broad range of opinions from all interested students can be obtained.

On the faculty's website, you will find the current composition of the Faculty Council.

Examination Board (PA)

The Examination Board decides on the list of examiners and rules on requests from students, such as hardship cases or appeals against an examination.

You can find information about current dates and changes here: Examination Board

Study Commission (StuKo)

The Study Commission is perhaps the most interesting committee for students. This is where changes to the examination regulations and the course offerings are made. New courses are added or poorly attended courses are removed. It meets twice per semester and is open to the university public.

The Study Commission consists of:

You can find the current members of the StuKo Computer Science on the faculty's website.

Students' Union (AStA)

The Students' Union (AStA for short) is something like the student administration and also a service provider for students. It is made up of various departments. Some of these are the department for internal university policy, one for external policy, one for working with the faculty student councils, the cash office, finances, etc. In addition, the AStA employs people to provide BAföG and social counseling, for example.

Senate

The Senate is the highest body of academic self-government. As in the Faculty Council, the Senate consists of 7 professors, 2 research employees, 2 administrative employees, and 2 students, all of whom represent members of the university. The Senate elects the Presidium and decides on matters that affect the entire university, such as model examination regulations, the distribution of funds to the faculties, the establishment and closure of departments, and the appointment of professors.

Student Council (StuRa)

The StuRa is the highest political authority of the student self-administration. The Student Council is a parliamentary body at the university level. It is elected once a year. Fifty percent of the seats are direct mandates that you can indicate on your ballot, and the other half are filled by delegates from the Students' Faculty Councils.

The FSR ET\&Inf currently has 4 seats on the committee, although the exact composition changes depending on the number of students.

Tasks

The AStA offers current information on the StuRa.

Admissions Committee

The Admissions Committees are responsible for conducting the selection process for the master's programs in computer science and electrical engineering and information technology. The student representatives are elected by the Subject Group Council.

Appointment Committees

An appointment committee appoints new professors when there is a vacancy that needs to be filled. A separate appointment committee is formed for each professorship to be filled, and its student representatives are elected by the Subject Group Council.
